The Spanish prodigy has halted his move to Borussia Dortmund amid the emergence of the Blaugrana. So the newly-crowned La Liga champions have made headway in the chase for the teenage sensation.
Ivan Fresneda has raised eyebrows with his high-level performances despite still being in his teens. The 18-year-old made his La Liga debut with Real Valladolid at the onset of the 2022/23 campaign. And he took little time to establish a foothold at the Jose Zorrilla Stadium this past season.
The Spanish prodigy turned out 24 times across all competitions in the 2022/23 campaign. But Fresneda could not stop Real Valladolid from dropping to the Segunda Division. However, that has not affected his stock, which remains high. And several high-profile clubs, including Barcelona, are keen on signing him.
Barcelona recently rejoined the race to sign Fresneda from Real Valladolid this summer. The newly-crowned La Liga champions have been keeping tabs on the youngster’s progress for a long time. But Real Valladolid’s relegation from La Liga has made the teenage wonderkid an attractive target.
Fresneda’s release clause now stands at a mere €20 million following Valladolid’s drop to the Segunda Division. In addition, Barcelona might have a freer run at the 18-year-old Spanish prodigy after Arsenal decided to pull the plug on his move. And it has now emerged that Fresneda’s head has turned in the wake of Barcelona’s interest.
The Spaniard seemed destined to join Borussia Dortmund in the summer transfer window. But the youngster has halted the Dortmund move in the hope of Barcelona launching the move to sign him. But it will be interesting to see if the Blaugrana will offer anywhere close to €20 million to secure his services.
Meanwhile, Lutsharel Geertruida is also a right-back target for Barcelona. And they have prepared a bid to sign the Dutch full-back from Feyenoord this summer. So it will be interesting to see which of the two defenders becomes the top candidate to bolster the Barcelona squad.
