Chelsea are reportedly keen on signing 27-year-old AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan at the end of the season.
A report from Foot Mercato claims that Mike Maignan is not keen on a move to Stamford Bridge especially because they have failed to secure European qualification for the next season.
Maignan has established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in Europe, and he could have been a quality acquisition for the Blues. Chelsea need to bring in a quality goalkeeper this summer, and Maignan would have been an upgrade on players like Edouard Mendy.
Mendy has been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge after falling down the pecking order at the club. He needs to leave the club in order to play more often and it remains to be seen where he ends up. Maignan had thus emerged as a viable target for Chelsea.
The 27-year-old has been outstanding for AC Milan this past season, and he helped them reach the semi-finals of the Champions League. Chelsea will have to improve their squad if they want to get back into the top four and challenge for major trophies next season.
Apparently, the Blues are keen on the Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana as well, and the Cameroonian goalkeeper is set to cost around €58 million this summer. Inter Milan are ready to sell the player to balance their books but Chelsea are keeping tabs on other targets as well.
Maignan and Onana both impressed in Serie A and the Champions League this season. It remains to be seen whether Chelsea come forward with a concrete proposal for either player. Although Chelsea have missed out on Champions League qualification, they are one of the biggest clubs in the world with a talented squad.
