Aston Villa are on the verge of acquiring the services of 29-year-old Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain as a free agent.

According to talkSPORT, Aston Villa are keen on bolstering their midfielder ahead of next season. They were closely monitoring Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain for a while now and are all set to complete a Bosman move for the 29-year-old.

Oxlade-Chamberlain came through the ranks at Southampton and made a name for himself while playing for Arsenal. His performances attracted the Merseyside club, who acquired his services back in the summer of 2017.

After joining Liverpool, the 29-year-old played a key role for their first team. Despite not being a regular starter throughout, he had a big enough part in their success over the years. But, his levels declined due to fitness issues and so did his role in the first team. As far as the ongoing season is concerned, the Englishman made 13 appearances and was on the pitch for under 500 minutes.

With Liverpool’s midfield struggling, Jurgen Klopp decided that he needed to part ways with some of his senior players and bring in new faces. As a result, the club decided against renewing the contract of Oxlade-Chamberlain that was expiring after the end of the season.

With the season done and dusted, the 29-year-old is free to decide on his next club. And, according to talkSPORT, he might have already decided his next stop. The England international has been in talks with Aston Villa of late and the latest report suggests that the deal is almost done. The 29-year-old is on the verge of completing a free transfer to Villa Park.

Unai Emery has done wonders at Aston Villa. He has turned around their fortunes and guided them to Europe. Now, the Spanish manager wants to focus on further strengthening his squad for next season. He is keen on bolstering his midfield and feels adding someone with the experience of Oxlade-Chamberlain will surely help their cause.
