Chelsea have opening bid rejected for Andre Onana

Chelsea’s opening bid to acquire the services of 27-year-old Inter Milan shot-stopper Andre Onana has been rejected.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, Chelsea are keen on acquiring the services of Andre Onana. The Blues are desperate to sign a new number one ahead of next season and have their eyes set on the Inter Milan goalkeeper. However, they have received a blow as their first bid has been rejected by the Serie A club.

Onana has managed to turn things around in his career after joining Inter Milan ahead of the 2022/23 season. The 27-year-old was doing wonders at Ajax before he was suspended because of doping.

However, the Cameroon international has managed to revive his career. He has returned to his best and has 19 clean sheets in his 40 appearances this season. The 27-year-old has guided the Italian giants to the final of the Champions League.

Onana could be on the move just a year after joining Inter as a free agent, given the amount of interest in his services and the club’s financial crisis. Inter need to raise a significant amount ahead of next season and his departure could help their cause.

Meanwhile, Chelsea are keen on having the Cameroon international in their ranks. The Blues are looking for a new shot-stopper. They are not convinced by the performances of Kepa Arrizabalaga and Edouard Mendy. Both of them have been inconsistent of late, and the Blues want to sort out the goalkeeping situation by signing the Inter Milan star.

The English club placed a €40 million bid to acquire the 27-year-old. But their first offer has been rejected by the Serie A giants. Inter currently want to focus on the Champions League final and will resume negotiations after they are over with their season.

Onana is open to the idea of playing in the Premier League next season and has already agreed on personal terms with the Blues according to the report. With the 27-year-old ready to join Chelsea, they need to strike a deal with Inter as soon as possible.

There is a possibility that Romelu Lukaku will be included in the deal. The Chelsea forward is currently on loan at Inter and he has made it quite clear that he would love to continue in Italy. With Lukaku ready to stay at Inter on a permanent basis, it will make sense for him to be involved in this deal that could see Onana join the English club.
