Edouard Mendy has been linked with a summer move away from Chelsea, who are ready to use him in a deal to sign Andre Onana.

Edouard Mendy has dropped down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge, and he needs to leave Chelsea to play regularly. A report from Foot Mercato claims that Mauricio Pochettino wants to sign Andre Onana from Inter Milan and is ready to offer Mendy in a part-exchange deal for the Cameroon goalkeeper.

Onana has been a key player for Inter Milan this season, and he has been outstanding for them in the UEFA Champions League. The Serie A giants have made it to the Champions League final, and it remains to be seen whether the 27-year-old can help them win the competition.

It is no secret that Chelsea will have to bring in goalkeeping reinforcements this summer and Onana would be a quality acquisition. Recent reports have claimed that the Blues lead the race to sign the Cameroon international. Meanwhile, Edouard Mendy has certainly regressed over the past year and Chelsea need to bring in an upgrade.

Onana is at the peak of his career and could sort out the Chelsea goalkeeping situation for the foreseeable future. The Inter Milan goalkeeper will be expected to compete with Kepa Arrizabalaga for the starting spot next season. The Spaniard has started most games this season, and he could be a quality backup option to have.

Chelsea have had a disappointing season, and they have finished 12th in the league table. They will be hoping to bounce back strongly and challenge for major trophies next season. But the Blues need to bring in quality players at the end of the season, and signing a quality goalkeeper should be a top priority.

Onana has proven himself in Italy, and the opportunity to play in the Premier League could be an attractive option for him. Chelsea are one of the biggest clubs in the world, and they have the finances to convince Inter Milan to sell their key star.

Onana is likely to earn more money at the London club as well, and he is likely to be tempted. That said, Chelsea have missed out on Champions League qualification. So it will be interesting to see if the 27-year-old goalkeeper is prepared to join a club without European football next season.
