Chelsea looking to seal £40 million deal for Andre Onana

Chelsea are eager to seal a £40 million move for Andre Onana, with the Cameroonian keeper keen on a move to the Premier League.

According to Matt Law of The Telegraph, Chelsea are looking to seal a £40 million deal for Andre Onana at the earliest. The Blues are keen to ring many changes to their squad, including appointing Mauricio Pochettino as their new manager.

Andre Onana has successfully resurrected his career since that drug-related ban fiasco. At that time when he was serving his suspension, no major clubs went near him, despite having plenty of interest reported in the media.

Yet, Inter Milan took the risk and signed the Cameroonian on a free transfer. The 27-year-old Serie A star has taken his time, but now he is their No.1 keeper ahead of Samir Handanovic. However, his future at the club is far from certain, with Chelsea looming in the background.

The Stamford Bridge side have identified the 27-year-old Serie A star as their primary target for the position. Chelsea are eager to seal a £40 million deal for Cameroonian before the summer. The agreement seems closer than ever, with the Blues looking to conduct early business.

Manchester United were also in the equation, as per reports. However, it may appear Chelsea, have taken the march ahead of their rivals in the race for the 27-year-old Serie A star. The Blues will require a new keeper in the summer with personnel changes.

Edouard Mendy could depart the club after failing to agree on a new deal. Meanwhile, the club were open to considering offers for Kepa Arrizabalaga. But the Spaniard’s massive salary will prove a stumbling block in selling him.

Hence, Kepa might stay at the club but likely have Onana as his competitor for the No.1 spot. The 27-year-old Serie A star is open to playing in the Premier League, which will encourage Chelsea about a move. Inter Milan’s financial situation will force a few sales, with Onana likely to land them a massive profit if the £40 million asking price is paid.

Meanwhile, Chelsea are also closing in on Mauricio Pochettino as their new manager, which may bring some stability. The signing of Onana will stabilise the No.1 spot in the squad, with Chelsea expected to make a few sales themselves.
