Pablo Torre and Nico Gonzalez are close to leaving Barcelona on loan, with Villarreal and Real Betis, respectively, signing them.

Spanish media has updates on the futures of Barcelona midfield duo Pablo Torre and Nico Gonzalez. According to AS, Pablo Torre has edged closer to joining Villarreal. Meanwhile, SPORT has reported that Nico Gonzalez will likely move to Real Betis in the summer transfer window.

Pablo Torre has been with Barcelona for nearly a year. The 20-year-old joined the Blaugrana from boyhood club Racing Santander last summer. And considering Barcelona beat Real Madrid to his signature, the deal was seemingly a coup. But the Spanish midfielder managed only 583 minutes of game time across 16 appearances this past season.

On the other hand, Nico Gonzalez has been with Barcelona for a decade. A native of A Coruna, he started his youth career at Atletico Coruna Montaneros CF before joining Barcelona. And the 21-year-old made swift progress in the Catalan club’s youth division before making his first-team debut in 2021.

The Spaniard featured regularly for Barcelona in the 2021/22 season, with the financial troubles stopping them from resorting to the market for midfielders. But Nico lost his place in the team after Franck Kessie’s arrival. And he spent the 2022/23 campaign on loan at Valencia, making 26 appearances across all competitions.

Nico is returning to Barcelona in the summer transfer window but does not seem to have a place in next season’s squad. And Real Betis will be the second La Liga club to secure his services. A report by SPORT has revealed that the Andalusian giants are closing in on landing the 21-year-old on loan. So Nico will play European football next season.

On the other hand, Pablo Torre will likely join Villarreal in the summer transfer window. The 20-year-old has been on Villarreal’s radar for a long time. And the report by AS has claimed that the move to Estadio de la Ceramica is “winning integers” at FC Barcelona. And like Nico Gonzalez, Pablo Torre will play European football next season.

It will be interesting to see if joining La Liga clubs with European football can help Torre and Nico. Leaving Barcelona on loan is the best decision for the midfield duo, considering first-team opportunities will be scarce next season at Spotify Camp Nou.
