Kai Havertz move to Real Madrid collapses

Kai Havertz has been linked with a summer move away from Chelsea, with Real Madrid hot on his trails for some days.

Apparently, Kai Havertz has been a target for Spanish giants Real Madrid. But a report from MARCA claims that Los Blancos have now cooled their interest in the 23-year-old Chelsea star.

The move has reportedly collapsed, and it will be interesting to see if Havertz decides to renew his contract with Chelsea now. The attacker has a contract with Stamford Bridge until the summer of 2025, and there have been rumours in the past that he could be sold this summer if he does not sign an extension.

The 23-year-old joined Chelsea in 2020 and helped them win the UEFA Champions League. However, his time at Stamford Bridge has been quite underwhelming. He has not been able to showcase his qualities on a consistent basis.

Havertz has nine goals across all competitions this season, and he was expected to lead the attack for Chelsea. Clearly, he is not a prolific goalscorer, and Chelsea will have to invest in a top-class striker this summer. Recent reports had linked him heavily with Real Madrid.

It remains to be seen whether Havertz can hold on to a regular starting spot at Stamford Bridge. Real Madrid are in desperate need of attacking reinforcements, especially after the departure of Karim Benzema. And reports had claimed that Real Madrid had agreed personal terms with the Chelsea star.

Havertz could have been a quality long-term acquisition for them. The former Bayer Leverkusen attacker is regarded as a world-class prospect and he is still only 23. There is plenty of time for him to develop and fulfil his potential. He could have been a solid long-term investment for Real Madrid. Working with a manager like Carlo Ancelotti could have unlocked his potential as well.

He will now hope to get his career back on track at Chelsea. It remains to be seen whether he can impress manager Mauricio Pochettino and hold down a regular starting spot in the coming season. There is no doubt that the German is an extremely talented player with a big future ahead of him. If Chelsea can get the best out of him, it will improve their squad immensely.
