Real Madrid are reportedly willing to shell out €50–60 million to secure the signing of Chelsea’s wantaway star Kai Havertz this summer.

Real Madrid are ready to make a bid of around €50–60 million plus bonuses to secure the services of long-term target Kai Havertz from Chelsea this summer, according to Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg.

The German journalist claims that the Spanish giants have contacted the player and his representatives about a possible move this summer. The 23-year-old is open to a move to Santiago Bernabeu, while the club-to-club negotiations are anticipated to kick off soon.

Another interesting point noted by the transfer expert is that the German international is not seen as a like-for-like Karim Benzema replacement.

Havertz, who joined Chelsea from Bayer Leverkusen in 2020 for a fee of around €80 million, has struggled to live up to his expectations at Stamford Bridge and has often been criticised for his lack of consistency and impact. He has largely been flattered to deceive despite scoring the all-important winning goal in the 2021 Champions League final against Manchester City.

Despite enduring a tough season, Havertz has been Chelsea’s top scorer in the Premier League this past season with seven goals in a makeshift false-9 role, but that reflects more on the low bar set at Stamford Bridge this season than the player’s own exploits. Nevertheless, Mauricio Pochettino is keen for the club to recruit a natural striker for the next campaign.

The 23-year-old is among those in Chelsea’s squad who have already been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge this summer as the club seeks to balance their finances after a heavy transfer outlay over the past 12 months.

Furthermore, the German international will enter the final year of his contract next summer, and Chelsea’s hierarchy are keen to avoid losing players on a free transfer.

As a consequence, Chelsea are said to be open to letting Havertz go and are understood to be keen on recouping most of their initial investment in the player from Real Madrid.

With Real Madrid set for a summer of revolution, especially in the attacking unit, the Chelsea ace has been identified as one of the priority targets by the Spanish giants.

Both Carlo Ancelotti and club president Florentino Perez are understood to be keen on landing the German international to reinforce the frontline at the Santiago Bernabeu following the confirmed exits of Karim Benzema, Marco Asensio, Eden Hazard, and Mariano Diaz.

It must be noted that the Merengues are already spending in excess of €100 million on Jude Bellingham’s signing, while they are also interested in Tottenham Hotspur superstar Harry Kane, who could also cost around the same €100 million ball-park. They are also keeping tabs on the situation of Roberto Firmino, while a loan deal for Espanyol’s Joselu is also on the cards.

While their transfer approach seems to rolling back the years of Galactico signing, given the mass exodus in the attacking department and losing their star striker in Karim Benzema, it makes sense they are looking to bring more than one attacking reinforcement.
