Tottenham will not pay more than £20 million to sign £40 million-rated Brentford goalkeeper David Raya, a target for Manchester United.

According to a report by The Sun, Tottenham will look to beat Manchester United to the signature of David Raya in the summer transfer window. But the North London club will not meet the asking price, worth £40 million, to land the Brentford goalkeeper. Instead, they will only shell out £20 million to secure his services.

David Raya has established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League since helping Brentford reach the top flight. The Bees, who do not often loosen their purse strings, have been an unlikely Premier League success story. And the 27-year-old has played his part in their advent.

The Spaniard has been with Brentford since July 2019, turning out 161 times while keeping 54 clean sheets. And Raya recently made his international debut for La Roja, reaching the pinnacle of his career. But he will leave Brentford in the summer transfer window, with Manchester United and Tottenham among his prospective suitors. And the Bees want £40 million to sanction a sale.

Manchester United might hand David de Gea a new contract, even though data should compel them to part ways with him. But even if the Spaniard remains at Old Trafford, Manchester United will sign a new goalkeeper this summer. Erik ten Hag has already revealed that the Red Devils want a competitor for de Gea.

Several goalkeepers have thus emerged on the Premier League club’s radar. And Raya has been on Manchester United’s radar for several months. But Manchester United will face stiff competition from Tottenham Hotspur in the race to sign the Spanish international.

Recent reports have claimed that the North London giants are the front-runners to sign Raya. And they have identified the Spanish international as the ideal candidate to replace Hugo Lloris. But Tottenham will not pay £40 million to secure the player’s services. And they will not shell out more than £20 million.

Tottenham’s decision can hand Manchester United the initiative to steal a march on them. But it is unclear if the Red Devils are ready to pay £40 million to sign the 27-year-old this summer. For now, what remains certain is that Tottenham will not cough up more than £20 million to land him.
