Nacho is on the verge of extending his Real Madrid stay, with the Spanish international signing a one-year contract.

According to reputed Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Nacho will not leave Real Madrid anytime soon. Recent reports have linked the 23-cap Spanish international with a possible departure in the summer transfer window. But he will sign a one-year contract with Los Blancos.

Nacho is one of the longest-serving first-team members in the Real Madrid squad. The 33-year-old has been with Los Blancos for over two decades. He rose through the ranks in La Fabrica before turning professional in the 2008/09 season. And he earned his first-team debut in April 2011 as a 21-year-old.

Since then, the Spaniard has been a regular for Real Madrid, albeit as a backup option. He has never been the undisputed first-choice right-back. But Nacho’s versatility has helped Real Madrid immensely, considering he can reprise any role in the defensive unit. And the veteran defender also has 23 caps with the Spanish national side.

Meanwhile, the versatile defender has turned out over 300 times for Real Madrid, chipping in with 16 goals and nine assists. But the Spanish giants have been in a spot of bother over Nacho’s long-term future, as he is in the final year of his contract. And such a situation has alerted several high-profile clubs.

Italian and Spanish clubs are keen on signing the 33-year-old defender. And a recent report claimed that Inter Milan approached him. But Nacho’s stint with Real Madrid will not end in the summer transfer window, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.

The reputed Italian journalist has suggested that the Spanish international will sign a new contract. And the new deal will see him extending his stay at the Santiago Bernabeu by a year. That aligns with Real Madrid’s policy of agreeing to one-year extensions with players aged over 30.

But Nacho’s decision to extend his stay will be good news for Real Madrid. After all, the upcoming summer transfer window will herald a transitional period. And with Los Blancos set to invest heavily in the attack, keeping hold of the 23-cap Spanish international will save them the worry of signing a new defender.
