Aston Villa will reportedly compete with Arsenal and Liverpool in the race to sign 26-year-old Belgian midfielder Youri Tielemans.
According to a report by Daily Mail, Youri Tielemans is the subject of interest from Aston Villa. The Villans have joined the race to sign the 26-year-old midfielder in a Bosman move in the summer transfer window. And the soon-to-be-free agent is also a target for Arsenal and Liverpool.
Youri Tielemans has been a pivotal figure for Leicester City since arriving from AS Monaco in January 2019. The Foxes initially signed the Belgian international on loan for the second half of the 2019/20 season. And they completed a permanent move following an impressive temporary stint.
The 26-year-old has turned out nearly 200 times for Leicester City, chipping in with 28 goals and 26 assists. But Tielemans’s stint with the Foxes will officially end on July 1, as he is leaving them as a free agent. And his availability has captured the attention of several high-profile clubs, including Arsenal, Liverpool, and Aston Villa.
Tielemans has been on Arsenal’s radar for a long time. The Gunners even considered signing the Belgian international last summer, only for a move to not materialise. But Arsenal’s interest in the player has not waned, especially amid uncertainties surrounding Granit Xhaka.
As for Liverpool, the Reds are losing three midfielders as free agents in the summer transfer window. And while they are closing in on signing Alexis Mac Allister, they still need to make more additions. The 26-year-old Leicester City midfielder has thus emerged on Liverpool’s radar over a Bosman move. But Arsenal and Liverpool now face stiff competition from Aston Villa.
Aston Villa made significant progress this past season under Unai Emery. Replacing Steven Gerrard with the Spanish tactician was a masterstroke by the Midlands club. And with European football on the horizon, the Villans want to strengthen various departments. Tielemans has thus emerged as a candidate to bolster the Aston Villa midfield.
While Arsenal can offer the Belgian midfielder UEFA Champions League football, the projects at Aston Villa and Liverpool are also attractive. And it will be interesting to see where Tielemans will ply his trade next season.
