Arsenal have opened talks to acquire the services of Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans, who is on the radar of Barcelona.
According to Football Insider, Arsenal are interested in signing Youri Tielemans. The 25-year-old midfielder has been the talk of the town of late. His contract is set to expire in the summer, and a lot of big clubs from across Europe, including Barcelona, are set to push for his services.
Tielemans came into the limelight while playing for AS Monaco. The Belgian international’s heroics for the French club caught the eye of the Foxes, who signed him in the winter of 2019. The 25-year-old joined them initially on a six-month-long loan.
But, after an impressive loan spell, the English club decided to make the move a permanent one. The Leicester City playmaker has since featured in 187 matches and has found the back of the net on 28 occasions. He has also registered 25 assists during his time at the club.
As far as the ongoing season is concerned, the Belgian international has five goal contributions in his 29 outings. The 25-year-old has been performing on a consistent basis for the Foxes, despite their struggle as a team.
While Leicester City wanted to extend his stay at the club, the player is keen on a move elsewhere. He wants to cash in on his free agent status and secure a nice salary as well as move to a bigger club with higher ambitions.
Arsenal are one of the Premier League clubs keen on having the 25-year-old in their ranks. Mikel Arteta is looking on strengthening his midfield before next season. He wants to add another world-class central midfielder to his ranks.
The Spanish manager believes Tielemans could be a great fit for the club. His arrival will help Arsenal compete for the Champions League as well as the league title next season. While the Gunners are keen on having him in their ranks, they will have to fight it out with Barcelona for his services.
