Barcelona are interested in acquiring the services of 25-year-old Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans ahead of next season.
According to a report by Fichajes, Barcelona want to sign Youri Tielemans in the upcoming transfer window. The Catalan giants are keen on bolstering their squad. They have their eyes set on the 25-year-old midfielder who has been one of the best players for Leicester City over the past few seasons.
Tielemans was a part of Anderlecht’s youth academy in his early days. He came through the ranks at the club before making a move to AS Monaco in the summer of 2017. The 25-year-old’s outstanding performances at the French club attracted attention from the Premier League. And, Leicester City managed to land the Belgium international.
The Belgian international joined the Foxes on a six-month-long loan back in the winter of 2019. He had an impressive short spell at the Premier League club and they decided to make the move permanent in the following summer transfer window.
Tielemans has since been an integral part of Leicester City since arriving at the club. The 25-year-old has made a total of 187 appearances and has 53 goal contributions to his name. While Leicester have struggled in the ongoing season, the Belgian international has still been one of their standout performers with five goal contributions in his 29 outings.
His contract with the Foxes ends in the upcoming transfer window. And, he is in no mood to pen an extension with the Premier League club. Tielemans is desperate for a move to a bigger club and is looking to capitalise on his free-agent status in a few months’ time.
With the 25-year-old set to be a free agent, a lot of clubs are interested in signing him in a Bosman move. Barcelona are keen on his signature and are well aware of the qualities that the Belgian international will bring to the club.
Xavi wants to add reinforcements to his squad ahead of next season. The Spanish manager wants to push for the league as well as the Champions League title next season. And he believes adding someone like Tielemans will help his cause.
However, Xavi is well aware of the financial crisis that the club finds themselves in. They will have to offload a few players before they can push for the signatures of soon-to-be free-agent Tielemans. Even if they do manage to get the finances in place, they will have to battle it out with some of the biggest clubs in world football for his signatures.
