Liverpool and Brighton & Hove Albion have sealed the agreement for Alexis Mac Allister over a deal worth less than £45 million.

According to reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Alexis Mac Allister is on the verge of joining Liverpool. The Reds have reached a full agreement with Brighton & Hove Albion. And they will pay less than £45 million to land the 24-year-old midfielder. Meanwhile, Liverpool should complete the deal this week.

Alexis Mac Allister has established himself as one of the best midfielders in the Premier League during his stint with Brighton & Hove Albion. The Argentine international joined the Seagulls from Argentinos Juniors in January 2019. But he had to bide his time before becoming a regular for Brighton.

Meanwhile, Mac Allister has tasted success on the international stage, winning the 2022 FIFA World Cup with Argentina. And he has enjoyed an excellent 2022/23 season, amassing 12 goals and three assists in 40 appearances. Mac Allister’s progress at the Amex Stadium has not gone unnoticed either. And the player will soon move to Liverpool in the summer transfer window.

Liverpool will head into the summer transfer window knowing they need to invest heavily in the midfield unit. The Reds are losing James Milner, Naby Keita, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain as free agents. In addition, Jordan Henderson and Fabinho’s performance levels plummeted in the 2022/23 season.

Meanwhile, Thiago Alcantara has struggled with fitness issues during his stint with Liverpool. So the Reds need to galvanise their midfield department in the summer transfer window. And Alexis Mac Allister has been one of Liverpool’s top targets. Reports have also suggested that the English giants have been ready to trigger his release clause.

Liverpool and Brighton have now sealed the deal for Mac Allister. The latest update comes in the wake of claims by his cousin over the agreement being close. And Fabrizio Romano has claimed that the release clause is much less than the reported £45 million. That makes it a bargain transfer for the Merseyside club.

Mac Allister is well-settled in the Premier League and should take little time to acclimatise to his new surroundings. Meanwhile, Liverpool will aim to formalise the transfer this week before the 24-year-old midfielder departs for the international game with Argentina. So Liverpool’s first midfield deal is done. And it will be interesting to see who arrives at Anfield next.
