Erik ten Hag will soon hold direct talks with Harry Maguire regarding his long-term future at Manchester United.

Fabrizio Romano has told Give Me Sport that Harry Maguire will soon hold crunch talks over his future. The English international will likely leave Manchester United in the summer transfer window. And getting his £200,000-a-week wages off the books will be a good decision from the Red Devils.

Harry Maguire rose to prominence during his stint with Hull City. While the Tigers went down to the Championship at the end of the 2017/18 season, he had made enough of an impression to secure a move to Leicester City. And the 30-year-old saw his stock skyrocket during his two years with the Foxes. In addition, his exploits with England earned him a deal with Manchester United.

The English international immediately became the first-choice centre-back, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer making him the Manchester United captain in his first season. But while Maguire was initially a reliable performer for the Red Devils, his stock has fallen in the last twelve months. And he is now a bit-part player for Manchester United.

With Raphael Varane regaining fitness and Lisandro Martinez taking no time to become a regular, Maguire’s star plummeted. The experienced defender has started only 16 of the 62 games played by Manchester United this season. And with his career headed nowhere, Maguire might leave the Red Devils this summer.

Reports last month suggested Manchester United might loan out Maguire to protect his value. But widespread claims have pointed to the Red Devils being eager to get him off their books for good. And the 30-year-old will soon hold showdown talks with Erik ten Hag regarding his future at Manchester United.

Maguire currently pockets £200,000-a-week wages, making him one of Manchester United’s top earners. And if the Englishman is not going to feature regularly, it behoves the Red Devils to cash in on him. Recent reports have claimed that Manchester United might pay him off to offload him this summer.

The experienced centre-back does not have a shortage of suitors either. Recent reports have linked him with West Ham United and Newcastle United, among others. But it is unclear if any club will match his current £200,000-a-week wages. It will also be interesting to see what comes off the upcoming crunch talks between Manchester United and Maguire.
