Intermediaries might soon offer Real Madrid the chance to sign beleaguered Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku this summer.

According to reputed German journalist Florian Plettenberg, Real Madrid might have the chance to sign Romelu Lukaku late in the summer transfer window. Mauricio Pochettino is ready to integrate the Belgian striker into the Chelsea squad next season. But a departure from Stamford Bridge is also on the cards.

Romelu Lukaku has endured a topsy-turvy ride for much of his professional career. The 30-year-old seemed to be destined to break records after an impressive 2012/13 season on loan from Chelsea at West Bromwich Albion. But he has been inconsistent for top clubs apart from Inter Milan.

The Belgian international has had sub-par stints with Manchester United and Chelsea. And he is on loan at Inter Milan, where fitness issues have troubled him this season. But the player has a decent tally of 14 goals and seven assists in 36 appearances thus far. However, Lukaku’s long-term future is uncertain, with Florian Plettenberg now suggesting that intermediaries might offer him to Real Madrid.

Real Madrid will delve into the market for attacking reinforcement in the summer transfer window. That is because Marco Asensio and Eden Hazard are departing from the Santiago Bernabeu as free agents. And while neither player has been an undisputed first-choice starter for Real Madrid, they will leave vacant spots in the squad.

Interestingly, Chelsea attacker Kai Havertz has emerged as a top target for Real Madrid. But Lukaku’s name has come up as a possible attacking reinforcement. And Florian Plettenberg has suggested that intermediaries might offer the 30-year-old to Real Madrid late in the summer transfer window.

But Mauricio Pochettino is open to re-integrating the Belgian international into the Chelsea squad next season. Meanwhile, permanently rejoining Inter Milan is also an option for the experienced striker. And the Nerazzurri will soon approach Chelsea to discuss a deal for Lukaku’s services.

So Lukaku’s future is up in the air, and the coming weeks should clarify the situation. For now, three options remain on the cards for the former Manchester United striker. And it will be interesting to see where he plies his trade in the 2023/24 season.
