PSV Eindhoven will reportedly demand €50 million to part ways with Dutch sensation Xavi Simons, a target for Arsenal.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Xavi Simons is the subject of interest from Arsenal. And the Gunners now know how much they will need to pay to secure his services in the summer transfer window. PSV Eindhoven will demand €50 million to part ways with the Dutch sensation.

Xavi Simons has been a highly-rated whizkid since his day in Barcelona’s fabled La Masia setup. But he was part of a mass exodus at the Catalan club between 2017 and 2020, and he joined PSG in July 2019. The 20-year-old thought he would secure a quicker pathway to regular first-team football at PSG. But that did not happen.

So after biding his time for a few years, the Dutch sensation joined PSV Eindhoven in a Bosman move last summer. And Simons has been a resounding success this season, contributing to 44 goals (22 strikes, 12 assists). The youngster’s progress has not gone unnoticed either, with Arsenal among his prospective suitors.

Arsenal’s interest in Simons is surprising, considering Martin Odegaard is the undisputed starter as the no. 10. With the Norwegian playmaker being the Arsenal captain, he is indispensable for the North London club. But Odegaard has shown the potential to play a deeper midfield role. And with Granit Xhaka leaving this summer, Odegaard can replace him.

Simons thus comes into the picture as a viable target for Arsenal. The Dutch sensation can also be an alternative to Gabriel Martinelli or Bukayo Saka when the opportunities present themselves. And recent reports have claimed that the Gunners have handy contacts with Simons’s entourage. The Premier League heavyweights now know how much they will need to pay to sign him.

PSV Eindhoven will demand €50 million to part ways with the 20-year-old. While the Dutch giants want to keep hold of the youngster, they will command a premium price if push comes to shove. Meanwhile, PSG can re-sign Simons for a mere €12 million due to a buyback clause. That leaves Arsenal in a spot of bother.

But Arsenal will bank on the “once bitten twice shy” scenario, considering the Dutch sensation did not get the opportunity to shine at PSG. Meanwhile, it will be interesting to see if the Gunners are ready to shell out €50 million to sign the youngster this summer.
