Liverpool, Manchester United ready to make move for Jurrien Timber

Jurrien Timber has been linked with a summer move away from Ajax, with Liverpool and Manchester United keen on signing him.

Liverpool and Manchester United are keen on signing Jurrien Timber this year. And a report from Fichajes claims that the two English clubs are hoping to secure his services. The Ajax defender could cost around €50 million in the summer transfer window.

Timber has established himself as an important player for Ajax, and he has the ability to succeed in the Premier League as well. Liverpool could certainly use defensive reinforcements and the versatile Dutchman would be a quality long-term investment. So the interest in him makes sense.

Players like Joel Matip and Joe Gomez have been largely underwhelming this season and Liverpool will have to bring in alternatives in the coming weeks. Timber can operate as a central defender as well as a right-back. He could start alongside the likes of Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk. He could also be a backup option to Trent Alexander-Arnold if needed.

Apart from his defensive qualities, the 22-year-old has impressive distribution skills. In addition, his passing ability will allow the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United to build from the back. Working with a world-class manager like Jurgen Klopp could help the talented young defender fulfil his world-class potential. But it remains to be seen whether Liverpool are prepared to pay up for him.

Meanwhile, Manchester United need defensive reinforcements as well. Players like Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof have been linked with moves away from Old Trafford. So the Red Devils will have to replace them adequately. Timber has thus emerged as a viable target for Manchester United.

Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag will know all about the Ajax defender, having worked with him during their time together at the Dutch club. But it remains to be seen whether he can convince the player to move to Old Trafford. The Red Devils have the financial strength to pay €50 million to secure his services.

The reported asking price is certainly affordable for Manchester United. And Timber could prove to be a bargain in the near future if he manages to adapt to English football quickly. The Red Devils have qualified for UEFA Champions League. So it is fair to assume that they could have an edge over Liverpool in the transfer race because of that.
