Marco Asensio has reportedly decided to snub Aston Villa to join PSG when he leaves Real Madrid as a free agent this summer.

According to a report by David Ornstein and Guillermo Rai of The Athletic, Marco Asensio will not join Aston Villa in the summer transfer window. The Real Madrid attacker has decided to move to Paris Saint-Germain instead. And he will sign a €10 million-a-year contract when he moves to Parc des Princes.

Marco Asensio is reaching the end of an era at Real Madrid, and there will be a sense of unfulfilled potential. The Spanish international was supposed to be a long-term offensive solution for Los Blancos when he arrived from RCD Mallorca in July 2015. But he has been a rotation option for Real Madrid in the last few seasons.

The 27-year-old has made his mark whenever he has received the opportunity to impress. But despite contributing to 20 goals this season, Asensio’s role has not changed. And with the player in the final weeks of his contract, he will likely leave Real Madrid as a free agent. Aston Villa and PSG have been his most heavily-linked suitors.

At Aston Villa, Unai Emery has been pushing to secure Asensio’s services for the last few weeks. And recent reports claimed that the Real Madrid attacker was closing in on joining the Villans. The interest in the Spanish international was understandable, considering he would be an upgrade on Leon Bailey.

In addition, Emery has shown the pedigree to take Aston Villa to unprecedented heights after clinching a top-seven finish this season. But despite inching closer to sealing a Bosman move, Aston Villa will face defeat to PSG in the race to sign the 27-year-old.

Reports last week suggested that Asensio and PSG had advanced discussions over a summer deal. And Les Parisiens have made a decisive comeback in the chase for the Real Madrid contract rebel. The report claims that the player has decided to join PSG and will sign a €10 million-a-year deal.

The €10 million-a-year contract will hike Asensio’s wages considerably. And with that, his stint with Real Madrid will end when the summer transfer window opens. It will be interesting to see who Aston Villa will identify as the alternative to the Spaniard.
