Manchester United will reportedly consider signing 26-year-old Italian goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario in the summer transfer window.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, as relayed by Sport Witness, Guglielmo Vicario is the subject of interest from Manchester United. Erik ten Hag wants a new shot-stopper to compete with David de Gea next season. And the 26-year-old Empoli goalkeeper has emerged as a possible target for the Red Devils.
Guglielmo Vicario has been a journeyman for much of his professional career thus far. The Italian goalkeeper spent his formative years with Bearzi and Udinese before graduating from the latter’s academy. And he has represented half a dozen clubs in his senior playing days thus far, finally finding a stable footing at Empoli.
The 26-year-old spent the 2021/22 season on loan at Empoli, who signed him permanently last summer. And Vicario has kept seven clean sheets in 31 appearances this term, conceding 40 goals. The goalkeeper’s progress has not gone unnoticed either, with Manchester United among his prospective suitors.
Manchester United will likely seal an agreement with David de Gea over a new deal in the coming weeks. But Erik ten Hag has revealed that he wants Manchester United to sign a goalkeeper to give the Spaniard a run for his money. So the Red Devils are in the market for a shot-stopper heading into the summer transfer window.
Several goalkeepers, including Diogo Costa, have thus emerged on Manchester United’s radar. And Guglielmo Vicario is the latest candidate to emerge as a target to bolster the first-team squad. But the 26-year-old Italian goalkeeper does not have the profile to challenge de Gea to the first-choice berth.
Nonetheless, he remains a candidate to arrive at Manchester United to compete with the Spaniard next season. But the Red Devils face stiff competition from several other clubs in the race to sign the Empoli stopper. In particular, Inter Milan will look to secure Vicario’s services in the summer transfer window.
