Newcastle United offered chance to sign Joao Felix

Joao Felix will leave Chelsea and return to parent club Atletico Madrid upon the end of his loan deal but has been offered to Newcastle United.

Joao Felix has managed to score just four league goals during his time at Stamford Bridge. And Chelsea have decided not to sign him permanently. A report from Daily Mail claims that the 23-year-old has now been offered Premier League rivals Newcastle United who will decide whether they want to loan the player for another season.

Felix is clearly unwanted at Atletico Madrid. So they will be hoping to get rid of the player permanently and recoup some money this summer. It seems highly unlikely that any club would pay a big amount of money for the Portuguese international given his performances over the past year.

There is no doubt that the 23-year-old is a prodigious young talent with a massive future ahead of him. But he has not been able to demonstrate his quality on the pitch. Meanwhile, very few clubs can afford to match his £200,000-a-week wages.

Apart from a few isolated performances here and there, Felix’s loan spell at Chelsea has been rather underwhelming. It remains to be seen whether Newcastle take up the opportunity to loan the player for the next season. Newcastle need to add more quality to their attack, and Felix could be a useful option for them. Recent reports have also linked the youngster with them.

The 23-year-old can operate as a centre-forward as well as a winger. His versatility will be an added bonus for Newcastle United and Eddie Howe. The Magpies will be competing in the UEFA Champions League next season, and they need a deeper squad to compete on all fronts.

Felix was regarded as one of the best young players when Atletico Madrid decided to pay a club-record fee for him. And despite his inconsistencies, the 23-year-old has the ability to become a world-class player. However, he has not been able to get back to his best since leaving the Portuguese club.

If Newcastle can help him recapture his peak form, they would have a major bargain on their hands. At St. James’ Park, Felix will be able to perform without pressure and the move could be ideal for him. Meanwhile, the Portuguese star is on massive wages of around £200,000 a week.

But Newcastle United have the resources to afford that. Not many clubs in the world will be able to pay him that much. The Tyneside outfit will have the financial resources to take a chance on him and it remains to be seen how the situation develops. As for Chelsea, they will not sign him permanently after initially discussing such a deal.
