Barcelona will soon approach Bayern Munich to discuss a summer deal for 28-year-old German international Joshua Kimmich.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona will soon formalise interest in Joshua Kimmich. The Catalan giants are ready to submit an enquiry for the 28-year-old Bayern Munich utility man. And Xavi Hernandez is willing to speak with the player to seal the deal in the summer transfer window.

It is rare that a player is world-class in two vastly-different positions. But such is the class of Joshua Kimmich that he has been phenomenal as a right-back and a defensive midfielder. So it is no wonder that pundits and Bayern Munich’s decision-makers alike viewed him as the heir to Philipp Lahm.

The 28-year-old has done so for his club and country, becoming a pivotal figure for both teams. Meanwhile, Kimmich’s market value has risen to €80 million. But recent reports have claimed that the German international is open to leaving Bayern Munich in the summer transfer window. And such a situation has captured the attention of Barcelona.

The Catalan giants hold a long-standing interest in the Bayern Munich utility man. But Barcelona started seriously pursuing him last month. And the eagerness to sign the player is understandable, considering Sergio Busquets is on the verge of leaving Barcelona in the summer transfer window.

The veteran midfielder’s departure will leave a glaring void in the Barcelona midfield unit. And even though Busquets has not been at his best in the last few years, it is difficult to replace his leadership ability and game-controlling qualities. That is where Kimmich comes into the picture for Barcelona. And the Catalan giants are ready to formalise their interest in the 28-year-old.

While it is unclear how Barcelona can match his market value of €80 million, or his price tag, which might be higher, they are ready to include him in the viability plan. And the Blaugrana will soon approach Bayern Munich to submit an enquiry for Kimmich. Meanwhile, the German international is open to leaving the Bundesliga club to move to Camp Nou.

In addition, Xavi Hernandez is ready to speak with the 28-year-old, just like he did with Robert Lewandowski last year. But it will be interesting to see if Bayern Munich will entertain any approaches. For now, the experienced midfielder remains a priority target for Barcelona.
