Barcelona and Atletico Madrid are reportedly keen on completing a Bosman move to sign Borussia Dortmund full-back Raphael Guerreiro.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Raphael Guerreiro will leave Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund as a free agent in the summer transfer window. And Barcelona and Atletico Madrid will look to secure his services in a Bosman move in the coming weeks.

Raphael Guerreiro has established himself as one of the best full-backs in the Bundesliga since joining Borussia Dortmund from FC Lorient in July 2016. And the Portuguese international has enjoyed a fruitful seven-year stint with the Black and Yellows. At the same time, he has been a pivotal figure for his national side.

The 29-year-old has turned out 224 times for Borussia Dortmund, chipping in with 40 goals and 50 assist. But Guerreiro’s stint with the Bundesliga club will end in the summer transfer window when he departs as a free agent. And such a situation has captured the attention of several teams, including Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.

The Portuguese international has been on Barcelona’s radar for a long time. And the continued interest in the player is understandable, considering Jordi Alba’s impending exit. The veteran left-back will leave Barcelona in July. And while Xavi Hernandez has Alejandro Balde and Marcos Alonso at his disposal, the latter is on the wrong side of 30.

So even though securing Guerreiro’s services should not be a priority, Barcelona should keep the option open if the opportunity presents itself. But the Blaugrana will face stiff competition from Atletico Madrid in the race to sign the 29-year-old in the summer transfer window.

The Colchoneros have to take a forced decision to pursue a left-back in the summer transfer window. That is because Reinildo Mandava has sustained a long-term injury that will keep him on the sidelines for several months. Several left-backs, including Jordi Alba, have thus emerged on Atletico Madrid’s radar.

It will be interesting to see where Guerreiro plies his trade in the 2023/24 season after leaving Borussia Dortmund. But Barcelona and Atletico Madrid will offer him a new adventure in La Liga in the coming weeks.
