Chelsea and AC Milan could hold talks to discuss a move for Ruben Loftus-Cheek as the 27-year-old midfielder might leave Stamford Bridge.
According to Dean Jones via Give Me Sport, Chelsea could hold talks with AC Milan to transfer Ruben Loftus-Cheek. The 27-year-old midfielder faces an uncertain future at Stamford Bridge, with the club ready to cash in for a reasonable offer.
AC Milan could again look at the Premier League and snap up a promising talent. Ruben Loftus-Cheek is no prospect, but he is a conditioned midfielder who has had a tough time with luck. Even this season, when his club has thoroughly struggled for relevance, the midfielder also suffered a massive dip in form.
While he was a regular until the World Cup break, Loftus-Cheek has been in and out of the Chelsea team since. He did suffer a few injuries, but when he has played, the 27-year-old midfielder has not convinced those above he’s worthy of a long stay.
Chelsea is considering selling Loftus-Cheek for a reasonable offer. His departure could allow the club to add the fees as a straight profit considering the 27-year-old midfielder came through the academy. With a year left and the club unlikely to want to keep him as a regular, leaving would seem like an ideal scenario.
Some teams from Italy have kept close tabs on the 27-year-old midfielder’s situation. Roma have been interested along with some other Serie A sides were previously interested, as moving to Italy has become a trend among English players.
AC Milan has also been keen on the 27-year-old midfielder for a long time, which could finally become the window when they sign him. According to journalist Dean Jones, Chelsea are reportedly likely to hold talks with the San Siro side.
Jones said, “There will be new meetings soon, but the transfer fee shouldn’t be an issue. The situation is a little more complicated regarding the personal terms, and the salary, instead, could represent an obstacle for the move.”
“His salary is currently around €9 million – a figure that AC Milan will absolutely not reach in any way. Loftus-Cheek’s contract will expire in 2024, and the midfielder could use the next year to maximise his income.
“From my perspective, convincing him to embrace the Rossoneri project with a downward adjustment in his salary won’t be so easy, but let’s wait and see for the developments.”
While Jones insists transfer fee won’t seem like an issue, personal terms could become a problem for Milan. Loftus-Cheek currently earns around €9 million per season, something the Italian clubs are unlikely to offer. Whether the 27-year-old midfielder takes a massive pay cut remains the question.
If not, the midfielder could also consider finishing his contract at Chelsea and ensuring his finances are intact for at least a year. However, if he desires to play regularly and revive his career, he must make a reasonable salary sacrifice.
