Aston Villa are reportedly interested in signing 25-year-old English winger Harvey Barnes, a target for Tottenham, from Leicester City.

Harvey Barnes has been linked with a summer move away from Leicester City. And a report from the Independent claims that Aston Villa are front-runners to secure the services of the 25-year-old English winger, also a target for Tottenham Hotspur.

The Leicester City midfielder could prove to be a quality acquisition for Unai Emery and Aston Villa. He has been linked with West Ham as well. The report claims Tottenham Hotspur are also keen on signing the attacking midfielder. Spurs could definitely use more quality in the final third, and Barnes would be a superb signing for them.

Aston Villa have shown tremendous improvement under Emery, and they are pushing for European qualification. They will be hoping to take the next step in the development next year. So they need to bring in quality reinforcements. Recent reports have linked them with attackers like Anthony Martial.

Leicester City are currently fighting for their survival in the Premier League. And they are likely to lose a number of key players if they go down to the Championship. Harvey Barnes has been a key player for them, and he deserves to play in the top flight.

The 25-year-old midfielder has 12 goals to his name across all competitions and could prove to be a quality addition to the Aston Villa midfield. The 25-year-old can operate as a left-sided winger as well as a central attacking midfielder. His versatility will be an added bonus for Aston Villa if they manage to sign him.

It remains to be seen whether Villa can agree on a fee with Leicester City in the coming weeks. The opportunity to play for the West Midlands club will be an attractive option for Barnes, especially if the Foxes suffer relegation. Working with a manager like Unai Emery will only help him improve as a player.

Meanwhile, Aston Villa should look to bring in attacking reinforcements as well. They have been overly reliant on Ollie Watkins all season and the 27-year-old striker needs more help and support from his teammates.

Bringing in a quality creator like Barnes will certainly help Aston Villa improve in the final third, and they should look to sign a quality goalscoring partner for Watkins as well. But it will be interesting to see if the Villans can beat Tottenham Hotspur to Barnes’s signature this summer.

Barnes would be a good signing at the right price. In my opinion he always seems to play well against us. Emery would improve him and he could become a real quality player under his guidance
