Aston Villa have reportedly been linked with a move for 27-year-old Manchester United striker Anthony Martial.

Anthony Martial has had a tough time at Manchester United and he has been linked with an exit this summer. A report from the Football Transfers claims that Aston Villa could look to sign him during the summer transfer window.

The French international striker has not been able to live up to the expectations since his move to Manchester United. He has struggled to fulfil his potential because of persistent injury problems and he has not been able to hold down a regular starting spot this season.

Martial has started just ten league games for Manchester United this season, and he needs to leave the club in order to get his career back on track. The 27-year-old has eight goals and three assists to his name across all competitions for Manchester United, and he could prove to be a useful addition to the Aston Villa attack.

The West Midlands club need to bring in more options in the attack this summer. Unai Emery has been overly dependent on Ollie Watkins for goals. Martial could prove to be a quality partner for Watkins next season. The 27-year-old Manchester United forward can operate as a winger as well, and his versatility will be an added bonus.

Martial is at the peak of his career right now. So regular football at Aston Villa could be ideal for him. Unai Emery is a top-class manager who can get the best out of the French striker once again. When he signed for Manchester United, the 27-year-old was regarded as a world-class talent. So there is no reason why he cannot perform at a high level for Aston Villa.

Villa have done quite well under the Spanish manager so far, and they will be hoping to take the next step in the development next season. Signing players like Martial will certainly help them improve. But it remains to be seen whether the two clubs can get a deal done.

Manchester United have been linked with a number of strikers, including Harry Kane and Victor Osimhen in recent weeks. If they manage to sign these players, Martial will fall further down the pecking order at Old Trafford. It makes sense for both parties to go separate ways during the summer transfer window.
