Newly-crowned La Liga champions have reportedly ramped up their efforts to sign 28-year-old Premier League winner Joao Cancelo.

According to a report by Spanish outlet SPORT, Joao Cancelo has become a top target for Barcelona. The Catalan giants are keen on signing the 28-year-old Premier League winner in the summer transfer window. And they are advancing their move for the versatile Manchester City full-back.

Joao Cancelo has a big decision to make in the summer transfer window. And that is bizarre as he was on top of the world a few months ago as a regular for Manchester City. But he suffered a cruel twist of fate after the World Cup break as he had a run-in with Pep Guardiola over differing ideas. And Manchester City shipped him out to Bayern Munich on loan in January.

The 28-year-old has turned out 20 times thus far for Bayern Munich, chipping in with one goal and six assists. But the Bundesliga champions will not trigger the purchase clause in their loan deal to sign him permanently. The Portuguese international does not have a future at Manchester City either. However, Barcelona will attempt to secure Cancelo’s services in the summer transfer window.

Barcelona will desperately scour the market for a right-back in the summer transfer window. Joan Laporta wants to end the never-ending search for a right-back once and for all. And the Barcelona president has already revealed that the Blaugrana will find a solution to the issues on the right flank ahead of the 2023/24 season.

Xavi Hernandez has had to use Jules Kounde, a centre-back, as Barcelona’s first-choice right-back this season. But Kounde does not want to reprise the role next season, thus creating an issue for Barcelona. And Cancelo has emerged as a target for the Catalan outfit heading into the summer transfer window.

Widespread reports have claimed that the 28-year-old Premier League winner is a priority target for Barcelona. And the Catalan giants are ramping up their efforts to secure Cancelo’s services this summer. But it is unclear if they can afford to meet Manchester City’s valuation.
