Chelsea are reportedly interested in signing Dutch wing-back Denzel Dumfries from Serie A club Inter Milan in a €40 million deal.

Denzel Dumfries has been linked with a move away from Inter Milan for months. According to a report from Calciomercatoweb, Chelsea are now preparing a €40 million bid to sign the Dutch wing-back from the Serie A club.

Chelsea will need to add more depth in the defensive department, and Dumfries has emerged as a viable target. Reece James has had persistent injury problems this season, and Chelsea will need to bring in more cover in the right-back department.

Dumfries can play as a right-back as well as a wing-back. Furthermore, he has proven himself at the highest level with his club and country in recent seasons. He is certainly capable of getting the job done in the Premier League.

The 27-year-old has helped Inter Milan reach the UEFA Champions League final this season, and it remains to be seen whether he can help the Serie A club win the trophy this year.

The Blues have the resources to sign the best players in the world. So Dumfries will fancy his chances of winning major trophies with them in the coming seasons. The Blues are expected to appoint Mauricio Pochettino as the new manager soon.

The Argentine is highly revered around Europe, and Dumfries will be attracted to the idea of playing at Chelsea under his management. The Dutchman is at the peak of his career right now and should be able to settle in quickly and make an immediate impact in the Premier League next season. It remains to be seen whether Chelsea and Inter Milan can agree on a fee for the defender now.
