Chelsea have been linked with a move for former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino, who wants Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in his squad.

Mauricio Pochettino is expected to take over at Stamford Bridge in the summer, and he is already planning transfer moves. A report from Fichajes claims that the 51-year-old has now asked Chelsea to sign the Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

The Denmark international has been a quality player for Tottenham since joining the club, and he could prove to be a quality acquisition for Chelsea. Chelsea need to add more quality and depth to the central midfield department. And the Spurs midfielder would be a superb option for them.

Mateo Kovacic has been linked with a summer move away from the club, and N’Golo Kante’s contract will be up in the summer. It is no secret that Chelsea will have to dip into the transfer market in order to sign quality midfielders. Hojbjerg has thus emerged as a viable target for the Blues.

The Tottenham midfielder has proven himself over the years with clubs like Southampton as well. There is no doubt that he could make an immediate impact at Stamford Bridge. However, it is highly unlikely that Spurs will sanction his departure to direct London rival anytime soon.

Hojbjerg is an indispensable asset for Tottenham, and the North London giants will not want to part ways with him anytime soon. It remains to be seen whether Chelsea come forward with an official proposal for the Denmark international at the end of the season.

The Blues spent a club-record sum on World Cup winner Enzo Fernandes during the January transfer window. But they must look to bring in a quality partner for him now. Hojbjerg, whose market value is €45 million, has the ability to shield the back four and recycle possession from a deeper role.

He could have formed a quality partnership with Enzo Fernandez next season. But Spurs will unlikely entertain offers from Chelsea for the 27-year-old, much less for €45 million. Meanwhile, Tottenham will need to bring in a quality manager this summer.

They are yet to appoint a long-term replacement for Antonio Conte. Pochettino was linked with a return to his former club. But it seems that the Argentine is now closing in on a move to Stamford Bridge instead. It will be interesting to see if Chelsea heed Pochettino’s request for Hojbjerg.
