La Liga heavyweights Barcelona are reportedly keeping tabs on the progress of 15-year-old French under-16 international Amidou Doumbouya.

According to a report by L’Equipe, as relayed by SPORT, Amidou Doumbouya is the subject of interest from Barcelona. The Catalan giants are one of several clubs tracking the progress of the 15-year-old. And they will look to sign the Sochaux wonderkid after he turns 16 later this year.

Amidou Doumbouya is a native of Bourges in France and started his youth career with local clubs ES Moulon Bourges. After half a decade with his boyhood club, he joined Bourges F18 in 2019. But his stint there was short, and he moved to FC Sochaux-Montbéliard last year.

The 15-year-old is a central midfielder by trade and revels in the box-to-box midfield role. Meanwhile, Doumbouya has already made his debut for the French under-16 side, turning out four times for the youth team. And the youngster’s progress has not gone unnoticed, with Barcelona among his prospective suitors.

The Catalan giants are renowned for constantly scouring the market for prodigious additions to La Masia. Barcelona’s academy has flourished because it is a conveyor belt of some of the most promising talents in the world. And recent reports have linked Barcelona with several whizkids, including Kaua Elias.

Meanwhile, Lamine Yamal is the latest product of La Masia, with Barcelona recently securing his long-term future. Yamal recently became the youngest-ever player for the Barcelona first team. And the Catalan giants have now set their sights on another prodigious prospect who is the same age as Yamal. We are talking about Amidou Doumbouya.

The 15-year-old has been on Barcelona’s radar for a long time. But the Blaugrana will face stiff competition from Bundesliga club SC Freiburg in the race to sign the youngster. But it is unclear if the French under-16 international midfielder wants to leave FC Sochaux-Montbéliard after only one year.

Training in La Masia will accelerate Doumbouya’s development. And it will be interesting to see if Barcelona can convince the teenage wonderkid to move to Spain for his final formative years. For now, the Catalan giants are keeping tabs on the 15-year-old’s progress in France.
