Barcelona will offer Nico Gonzalez in the deal to sign Juan Foyth as they look to do away with his release clause of €54 million.

According to Javi Miguel of AS, Juan Foyth remains a top target for Barcelona heading into the summer transfer window. But the Blaugrana cannot afford to pay his release clause of €54 million. So they will offer Nico Gonzalez to bring down the cost of the operation.

Juan Foyth has found a stable footing since joining Villarreal from Tottenham. The Argentine defender struggled to make his mark during his ill-fated stint with the North London club. But Unai Emery brought the best out of him, and he has continued in a similar vein under Quique Setien.

The 25-year-old has turned out nearly 100 times for Villarreal, chipping in with three goals and five assists. He was also a part of the squad that won the 2022 FIFA World Cup last year. Meanwhile, Foyth’s progress has captured the attention of several high-profile clubs, with Barcelona among his prospective suitors.

The former Tottenham defender has been on Barcelona’s radar for a long time. The Blaugrana attempted to secure Foyth’s services in the last two summer transfer windows. But a move never materialised due to the costs involved in signing the Argentine defender from Villarreal.

The Argentine international has a release clause worth €54 million in his contract with Villarreal. And with the Yellow Submarine adamant that suitors must trigger the exit clause, the Catalan giants are in a spot of bother. So Barcelona will offer a part-exchange deal to bring down the cost of the operation.

The report claims that the Catalan giants are willing to offer Nico Gonzalez as part of the deal to sign Foyth. The 21-year-old seemingly does not have a future at Spotify Camp Nou, so it makes sense to offload him. But it is unclear if Villarreal will be open to such a proposal from Barcelona.

The Argentine full-back remains a priority target for Barcelona heading into the summer transfer window. But it will be interesting to see if Barcelona can succeed in bringing down the cost from €54 million in the coming months.
