Real Madrid will not pursue Gabri Veiga in the summer transfer window, boosting Liverpool and Barcelona’s chances of signing him.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Gabri Veiga is no longer a target for Real Madrid. The reigning La Liga champions have walked away from a deal for the Spanish midfielder. But the Celta Vigo prodigy remains a target for Barcelona and Liverpool heading into the summer transfer window.

Gabri Veiga has gone from strength to strength since joining Celta Vigo several years ago. The 20-year-old rose through the ranks at the Galician club before making his first-team debut as an 18-year-old in 2020. Since then, he has established himself as a regular for Celta Vigo.

The Spanish midfielder has been a pivotal figure for Celta Vigo this season, scoring several crucial goals. Veiga has chipped in with nine goals and four assists in 31 La Liga appearances thus far this term. And his progress has captured the attention of several high-profile clubs, including Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Liverpool.

Recent reports have claimed that Real Madrid might use Pini Zahavi to broker a deal for Veiga. The Merengues are keen on laying down a succession plan for Luka Modric and Toni Kroos. But while some pieces are already in place at the Santiago Bernabeu, one signing is imperative. However, with Jude Bellingham closing in on joining Real Madrid, they are no longer interested in Veiga.

As for Barcelona, the Catalan giants are keen on bolstering their midfield unit for a second successive summer. That is because Franck Kessie faces an uncertain future at Spotify Camp Nou. And with Frenkie de Jong showing great promise as a holding midfielder, signing a goalscorer like Veiga might be a sensible call.

But Barcelona might not be in a position to pay €40 million to sign the 20-year-old. That leaves Liverpool in a strong spot to pursue Veiga’s signature. Speaking of Liverpool, the Reds want to sign multiple midfielders in the summer transfer window. With several players reaching their sell-by date, signing someone like Veiga bodes well for the Merseyside club.

With Real Madrid cooling interest in the Spaniard, Liverpool might become the front-runner to land the Celta Vigo midfielder. But it will be interesting to see if some other club will rise to the occasion and beat the Reds to his signature.
