Liverpool handed a major boost in their pursuit of Mason Mount as Manchester City and Newcastle United drop their interest.

According to Football Insider, Manchester City and Newcastle United are no longer interested in acquiring the services of Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount. The 24-year-old’s future at the London club has been uncertain for a while now and he is likely to be on the move in the summer.

Mount has been a key player for the Blues since being promoted to their first team back in the summer of 2019. He played an integral part in their Champions League success a few years back. But, things have not gone according to plan for the 24-year-old of late.

His performances on the pitch have suffered and his future is also uncertain. The England international has featured in 35 matches and has only been involved in nine goals so far. Mount’s contract at the club runs until the summer of 2024.

The club have tried extending his terms. However, the player has already rejected multiple contract extension offers as he wants pay parity with the top earns of the club. The Blues are not ready to offer such a contract, and they are likely to let him leave in the upcoming window.

Manchester City have been linked with the 24-year-old for a while now. But their priority is to strengthen other areas in the summer. And, they are not willing to push for the Chelsea midfielder’s signatures in the upcoming transfer window.

Newcastle are keen on bolstering their midfield ahead of next season. Eddie Howe’s men have been doing wonders in the ongoing season. And, he is keen on increasing his midfield depth as he looks to take the next step.

Mason Mount was one of their transfer targets heading into the summer transfer window. They were interested in having him in their ranks but his price tag has put them off. The Magpies believe the asking price for the 24-year-old is too high considering the fact that there is just a year left on his contract.

With Manchester City and Newcastle no longer in the race, Liverpool are now front-runners for his signature. The Merseyside club have struggled in the ongoing season because of an inconsistent midfield. And, their manager Jurgen Klopp is looking for a complete overhaul in the centre of the park.

Mount is on his radar. The German manager believes the England international’s arrival could help revive their club. With City and Newcastle now out of the race, it will be interesting to see if Liverpool can manage to land the 24-year-old at the club.
