Chelsea and Tottenham are vying to sign Guillermo Ochoa in the summer when the Mexican veteran’s contract expires with Serie A club Salernitana.

According to Fichajes, Chelsea and Tottenham are among the teams keen on signing Guillermo Ochoa in a Bosman move in the summer. The veteran goalkeeper’s contract with Serie A club Salernitana expires in the summer. And he will have an opportunity to continue his career in England.

Salernitana made the wise yet risky decision of signing Guillermo Ochoa on a short-term contract, but it has paid dividends. His performances have helped the Serie A side maintain the distance between themselves and the relegation zone.

For this reason alone, Salernitana are keen to keep him at the club. But opportunities from elsewhere will come in their way. Ochoa has had an accomplished career in Spain and the Americas. However, he has never played in England. But despite being 37, there might still be time for a new adventure.

English clubs are keen, and the report names three clubs, including Chelsea and Tottenham as suitors. There is certainly a need for an experienced keeper at both clubs. But the veteran Serie A goalkeeper may not come across as someone to take over the No.1 position in any of these sides.

Tottenham are keen to part ways with Hugo Lloris and have identified several top-notch options as his replacement. Beyond that, Spurs would also need a deputy for their new No.1, although they have Fraser Forster in that role.

So unless they are ready to promote Forster in the no.1 role and bring in someone like Ochoa as a deputy, considering the level they aspire for, Tottenham may not take such decisions and will likely bring a young, high-profile keeper between the sticks from next season onwards.

Meanwhile, Chelsea could lose one or both of their current keepers in the summer. Edouard Mendy and Kepa Arrizabalaga could lose their places in this squad, and the Blues are already looking at new options. Like Tottenham, they are unlikely to consider Ochoa anything more than a deputy to their No. 1 star.

Considering he will remain a No.1 at Salernitana if he chooses to stay, Ochoa will have a key decision in the summer. Chelsea and Tottenham are good options, but he will not play more than mere cup games next season here.
