Tottenham are reportedly working on a deal to sign Pedro Goncalves from Sporting CP, with Aston Villa also keen on the attacker.

According to Record via Sport Witness, Tottenham are already working on a deal to bring Pedro Goncalves in the summer. The left winger has impressed those in charge of Spurs, but they face competition from Aston Villa. The players’ €80 million release clause is also problematic for interested parties.

Pedro Goncalves has fallen on the radar of many Premier League sides. A host of top clubs remain keen to understand his situation and make an approach. The winger, known as ‘Pote’, has a release clause of €80 million on a contract valid until 2026.

Sporting CP remains relaxed about his situation and would want interested clubs to pay the full value of his release clause. Liverpool and Manchester United got mentioned as potential suitors. Realistically, Tottenham and Aston Villa are fighting for his signature.

Aston Villa were reportedly linked with a move as Unai Emery sought attacking reinforcements to bolster his ranks. The likes of Leon Bailey have failed to convince the Spaniard owing to niggling, consistent fitness issues. The Jamaican could become dispensable, and Goncalves could replace him.

Tottenham are ready to join rivals in the hunt for the 24-year-old target. Spurs have maintained contact with Sporting CP for a while. Goncalves is not the only personnel they want to bring from the Portuguese giants.

Manager Ruben Amorim is also of interest to Spurs, with the north Londoners shortlisting him to become their new head coach. However, they could resume talks with Sporting for Goncalves, with the attacker seen as vital to their plans.

Spurs recently signed Pedro Porro from Sporting at the end of the January window. They might make good of their relations with the Portuguese club and negotiate a deal for Goncalves. The hindrance is his €80 million release clause, which Tottenham remain uninterested in paying.

There’s a feeling Sporting might come down to the table and negotiate a reasonable fee. The Liga side also owes the 24-year-old Aston Villa target’s former side Famalicao 50% of any sale. Hence, the Portuguese giants will want to squeeze as much as possible from any potential deal.

Tottenham would like to come down to a reasonable fee, and if everything works out, they could prepare an offer. Speculations could increase with each passing week. Spurs will continue to monitor Goncalves and other targets ahead of the summer.
