Chelsea are ready to step up their pursuit of Romeo Lavia after new developments to their summer plans, especially in midfield.

According to Football Insider, Chelsea could prepare an offer for Romeo Lavia and look to march ahead of their rivals. The Blues’ co-owner Todd Boehly knows about the growing interest in the £45 million-rated teenage sensation and wants to get ahead of the queue.

Romeo Lavia has been a sensational coup for Southampton, who snapped him up from Manchester City last summer. The £45 million-rated teenage sensation has seen a rapid rise in the Premier League and has been one of the brightest players for the Saints despite their terrible position on the table.

Southampton remain favourites to suffer relegation from the Premier League, which could see them sell some of their prominent stars. Lavia will certainly leave in that scenario. The Saints could sell the Belgian as they could sense an opportunity due to a clause in his contract.

Manchester City have a £40 million buy-back clause, but it only activates in 2024. Hence, Southampton might feel they could attract higher bids in the summer, with £45 million considered enough to tempt the Saints. Many clubs are keen on the midfielder, including Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea.

Chelsea have been front-runners for the £45 million-rated teenage sensation, with Todd Boehly personally keen to land the midfielder. The Blues’ co-owner had reportedly made a bid for the Southampton star right after he completed a move to St. Mary’s.

While that bid was unsuccessful, Chelsea remain confident of signing the £45 million-rated teenage sensation this summer. The Blues may revamp their midfield altogether, with some recent developments likely to force their hand.

Alongside N’Golo Kante, Chelsea could also lose Mateo Kovacic in the summer, with Liverpool and Manchester United keen to talk to his representatives. As for Lavia, Chelsea see him as an ideal partner for Enzo Fernandez and want to tie up a deal as soon as possible.

They are aware of rival interest in Lavia, especially from Arsenal, who could look to sign him. The Gunners are keen on signing Declan Rice and Moises Caicedo in the summer. But if they fail in either pursuit, the Southampton star could emerge next on their list.

As for Chelsea, they also like those Arsenal targets but know they may not be able to sign them without Champions League football. Hence, Boehly wishes to get ahead of the queue for Lavia and bring him to Stamford Bridge early in the summer.
