Marco Asensio is reportedly on the verge of sealing a long-term agreement with Real Madrid, with the 27-year-old ready to extend his stay.

According to a report by The Athletic, Marco Asensio will soon sign a new long-term contract with Real Madrid. The 27-year-old Spanish international has been a target for AC Milan, Juventus, and Premier League clubs. But he will pen the renewal before his current deal expires in the coming months.

Marco Asensio has failed to fulfil the prophecy from his days as a youth footballer. The Spaniard was supposed to be one of the best young players in the world when he joined Real Madrid. But a long-term knee injury in 2019 hampered him considerably, and he has not reached his potential.

However, Asensio’s performance levels have been high, and he enjoyed his most productive term in 2021/22. The 27-year-old has continued to make his mark this season despite being a backup option for Carlo Ancelotti. And a tally of eight goals and six assists in just 1,376 minutes is impressive.

But Asensio’s long-term Real Madrid future has been uncertain for much of the 2022/23 season thus far. The Spanish international is in the final months of his contract, with recent reports claiming talks have not progressed much. But the Merengues have been keen on securing his long-term future for a long time.

Meanwhile, the player has popped up on the radars of several clubs, including AC Milan, and Juventus. Several Premier League clubs have also shown interest in the Real Madrid attacker. These include Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester United. But the Spaniard is ready to commit his long-term future to Real Madrid.

The report claims that Asensio will soon sign a long-term contract to extend his stay at Real Madrid. The decision by the 27-year-old Spanish international is somewhat perplexing, considering he will unlikely become a regular anytime soon.

But the latest update comes as a boost for Real Madrid, who will avoid entering the market for an attacking reinforcement this summer. As for Asensio’s suitors, they will need to look elsewhere to bolster their offensive units. So all that now remains is the official announcement for the 27-year-old’s renewal.
