Serie A giants AC Milan reportedly want to sign Marco Asensio and are seeking talks with the Real Madrid attacker’s agent Jorge Mendes.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Marco Asensio is the subject of interest from AC Milan. The Serie A champions are keen on initiate discussions with Jorge Mendes over a Bosman move. And the Spanish international is on the verge of leaving Real Madrid as a free agent in the summer transfer window.
Marco Asensio has endured a career of unfulfilled potential thus far. And when he looks back at the last few years, he will attribute the long-term knee injury at the onset of the 2019/20 season as the biggest factor in his downfall. Back then, he was destined to become a pivotal figure for Real Madrid. But the 27-year-old’s stock has fallen since returning from the long layoff.
The Spaniard contributed consistently season after season but remains a backup option. And he has seven goals and five assists in 34 outings for Real Madrid this term. But Asensio’s long-term Real Madrid future is uncertain, as he is in the final months of his contract. Such a situation has captured the attention of several top clubs, including AC Milan.
The Serie A giants hold a long-standing interest in the Real Madrid contract rebel and have also attempted to sign him previously. While a move has never materialised, this summer might present a golden opportunity for AC Milan. And the Italian champions have already been in contact with Asensio’s entourage.
The report has claimed that AC Milan will seek discussions with Jorge Mendes, Asensio’s agent, in the coming days. And it is clear why the Serie A heavyweights are interested, considering their struggles this term. Neither Junior Messias nor Alexis Saelemaekers has been consistent enough.
AC Milan will thus need to invest in a top-class attacker. And Asensio’s situation at Real Madrid has presented the Rossoneri with a chance to seal a low-cost signing. But the Serie A champions will face stiff competition from Premier League clubs for the Real Madrid contract rebel.
