Chelsea are interested in signing 22-year-old shot-stopper Giorgi Mamardashvili, who is on the radar of Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.
According to a report by Calciomercatoweb, Chelsea are leading the race to sign Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia in the summer. The 22-year-old shot-stopper has been doing wonders for the Spanish club, and his performances have attracted the attention of numerous clubs across Europe.
Mamardashvili started off at the Inamo Tbilisi’s youth academy. He went up the ranks at the club before joining Valencia on a six-month initial loan back in the summer of 2021. His impressive performances in Spain led to a permanent deal in the winter of that year.
The 22-year-old has featured in a total of 52 matches and has 16 clean sheets during his time at the club. The Georgia international has only conceded 58 goals while playing for the Spanish side.
As far as the ongoing season is concerned, Mamardashvili has seven clean sheets in his 31 outings. While his contract at the club runs until the summer of 2027, the 22-year-old could be on the move in the summer given the amount of interest in him.
The Georgia international has a €100 million release clause, but he might be available for a fee below. And, given the purchasing power of the clubs involved, it won’t be a shock to see him elsewhere in the next season.
Chelsea are keen on signing a new keeper as they are not happy with what they have seen of Kepa Arrizabalaga and Edouard Mendy recently. Mendy has been sidelined with injuries while Arrizabalaga has been inconsistent.
The future of both their goalkeepers is uncertain, and one of them is likely to depart in the summer. The 22-year-old could be a great addition to their ranks and might help revive the Blues, who have had a horror season so far.
But, they will face competition from Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur. Erik ten Hag is keen on signing a new keeper to push David de Gea for the number one spot. Even the Spanish shot-stopper’s future is uncertain, as he is yet to pen down a new contract. And, signing Mamardashvili could be a great move.
Spurs are also keen on the 22-year-old. They are looking for Hugo Lloris’s replacement. The former French international is on the decline, and the London club feel it is time to sign a new keeper to help them end their trophy drought. The player’s representatives were in London a few days ago, and they have held talks with Chelsea over a potential move.
