Atletico Madrid want to sign Nabty Keita on a free transfer as the Guinean midfielder will leave Liverpool in the summer.

Diego Simeone could make several changes to his playing squad, including signing a new midfielder. The Argentine coach wants a player who could add a creative spark to the team, and Fichajes reckons Naby Keita is a target for the Spanish giants.

Liverpool will look back and rue their investment in Naby Keita. The Reds paid around €60 million to sign the Guinean midfielder from RB Leipzig, and the move has not worked out for all parties concerned. Jurgen Klopp was able to get the best out of the player in patches, but he would have liked more.

Injury troubles mired Keita’s time and did not allow the midfielder to make the necessary impact. He has scored vital goals in key games for the club, but Klopp demanded consistency, something he could not achieve.

Keita has managed only 129 appearances in all competitions, and the current season has been a disaster in many ways. He has managed only 13 games on all fronts this season. Liverpool have long since decided not to extend his stay and are ready to let a player they paid €60 million for depart on a free transfer.

Keita will look at the options available to him during the summer window. Looking at his injury record, clubs will remain wary of paying his current salary and look to offer him lower terms. There has been interest from Italian and German sides, including former club RB Leipzig.

It’s still unclear whether any Premier League clubs fancy him, but Atletico Madrid are the latest to enter the chase. Diego Simeone remains keen to add a quality midfielder to his ranks ahead of next season. The current squad lacks creativity from midfield, and the manager has already tried to sign someone.

Reports from Spain suggested Dani Ceballos reportedly rejected an approach from Atletico recently. The common factor between him and Keita is their availability on a free transfer, which indicates the Roji Blancos’ financial state and how they identify targets.

Like any manager in the current scenario, Simeone will look at Keita’s injury record this season and past before deciding. Financially, it could prove a viable deal for a player in his prime, but the Argentine will take everything into account.

Keita will evaluate his options and likely decide on his new club before the season ends. As for Atletico, any move for the Guinean would resemble a gamble, with all eyes on Keita’s horrendous injury record.
