Christian Falk insists Liverpool are firmly in the race for Kouadio Kone, with Manchester United and Chelsea also interested.
Christian Falk, via Caught Offside, has insisted Liverpool are in the race to sign Kouadio Kone. The 21-year-old has remained in the conversation of a Premier League move, with Manchester United and Chelsea also keen.
Kouadio Kone, aka Manu Kone, has shone with his consistent displays for Borussia Monchengladbach this season. Some powerful performances in the campaign’s first half culminated in the English sides approaching for the player. But the Bundesliga club held firm.
Liverpool were supposedly keen on the 21-year-old in January. Gladbach refused to do business like every other side. With a long-term contract in place, the Bundesliga side are in no rush to sell him, although they will entertain offers in the summer.
Manchester United and Chelsea are front runners as per media reports from recent times. But Liverpool are also in the race. Jurgen Klopp wants to revamp his midfield in the summer, and Liverpool are reportedly prepared to spend significantly to get in new stars.
Players like Enzo Le Fee, Mason Mount, and Jude Bellingham have all been reportedly linked with a move. However, amid the stories connecting the Merseysiders with Kone, it is clear Klopp wants a holding midfielder in the summer. Bild journalist Christian Falk has now confirmed Liverpool’s interest. He also threw figures needed to prise Kone away.
Falk said, “Manu Koné has a contract until 2025 with an option until 2026. That said, Gladbach sees no chance of the player staying at the moment. They would say €50m would be brilliant for the player, €30m would be the beginning of the transfer poker.”
“There’s also Liverpool in the race, though that depends on how things develop with the Bellingham poker. Koné is one of the jewels of the Bundesliga, one of the most interesting transfer options this summer, and he’s very close to going to the Premier League. Gladbach are losing a lot of players and he will be one of them.””
While Liverpool might have sounded out their interest to Kone’s camp, Manchester United and Chelsea are interested as well. As things stand, only the Red Devils could offer the 21-year-old top-tier European football. Yet, the prospect of joining Liverpool remains tempting. Whether they commit to the financial figures remains the question. But Kone could improve the current squad.
