Chelsea, Manchester City need to pay £90 million to sign Ansu Fati

Manchester City and Chelsea can reportedly sign Barcelona star Ansu Fati for £90 million in the summer transfer window.

According to Football Insider, Premier League giants Manchester City and Chelsea must fork out £90 million to secure the services of Barcelona sensation Ansu Fati.

The 20-year-old joined La Masia in 2012 and is among the best players to break through to the first team in recent years. Fati made his senior debut for Barcelona in 2019 and also became the youngest player to score for the Blaugrana this century.

Since then, the youngster has made 97 appearances across all competitions, scoring 26 goals and assisting nine more. He has also made seven senior appearances for Spain, scoring two goals.

Despite putting his injury concerns behind him, Fati has struggled for regular minutes under Xavi Hernandez this season. This has not sat down well with the player nor his father who gave a rather explosive interview outlining the concerns earlier this year.

While he did mention that Fati is not keen to leave Barcelona, the situation is open to interpretation. More so, given the Catalan giants’ financial concerns, they could be ready to cash in on the 20-year-old’s services.

There is no shortage of suitors as Chelsea and Manchester City continue to keep a close watch on the player’s situation. Barcelona have placed a price of £90 million and appear ready to part ways in the summer.

Chelsea have spent lavishly in recent windows and have several young players who can form the core of their roster for years to come. The futures of Christian Pulisic, and Hakim Ziyech are up in the air, while Raheem Sterling is also not the player he once was.

Noni Madueke is still rough around the edges, while Mykhailo Mudryk has failed to hit the ground running. As someone who can play anywhere along the frontline, Fati certainly fits the bill at Stamford Bridge. However, what Chelsea need on a priority basis is a reliable goalscorer. As long as they can also bring in a world-class number nine, Fati could prove to be a game-changing addition to the attacking front.

Manchester City are another club who can do with an infusion of youth on the flanks. Jack Grealish is doing a rather solid job out on the left and has been a key cog in Pep Guardiola’s system. The English champions could do with a more dynamic alternative and Fati can be that man.

More so, Guardiola will be well aware of how to get the best out of a player coached in the footballing principles of La Masia. A move to the Etihad could prove to be a win-win for all parties.
