Manchester City are interested in signing RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol, a target for Chelsea and Real Madrid.

A report from Football Insider claims that Pep Guardiola is a big fan of Josko Gvardiol, also a target for Chelsea and Real Madrid. The Manchester City boss is pushing the Premier League club to sign the 21-year-old Croatian international.

Gvardiol has established himself as one of the best young defenders in the world, and he has been a star for club and country over the past year. The Croat was hugely impressive during the 2022 FIFA World Cup and helped his country reach the semi-finals of the tournament.

The 21-year-old is reportedly a target for Chelsea and Real Madrid as well. He has a contract with RB Leipzig until the summer of 2027 and is unlikely to come cheap this summer. Apparently, the defender has a £97 million release clause in his contract which will come into effect in the summer of 2024.

Manchester City will probably be looking to sign him for are more reasonable price at the end of this season. It will be interesting to see how the situation develops. The 21-year-old has certainly proven his quality in the Bundesliga and will hope to test himself at a higher level.

The opportunity to join a club like Manchester City could be a tempting proposition for him. The Premier League giants have proven themselves as serial winners. And Pep Guardiola, who wants the in-demand defender at the Etihad, is undoubtedly one of the best managers of all time.

The opportunity to work with the Spaniard could be an attractive option for the young defender. Guardiola could help him develop further and fulfil his world-class potential. The Croatian international has all the attributes to develop into a superstar in the near future, and he could sort out Manchester City’s defensive problems for the foreseeable future.

The likes of Chelsea and Real Madrid certainly have the financial resources to compete with Manchester City. As far as Chelsea are concerned, they will need to replace Kalidou Koulibaly, who has struggled since his move to the Premier League.
