Barcelona and Liverpool are reportedly among the clubs vying for the signature of 23-year-old Eintracht Frankfurt defender Evan Ndicka.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Liverpool will compete with Barcelona in the race to sign Evan Ndicka in the summer transfer window. But the Blaugrana will not enter a bidding war for the 23-year-old defender. The Eintracht Frankfurt centre-back will leave the Bundesliga club as a free agent in July.

Evan Ndicka spent his formative years at three French clubs before graduating from the AJ Auxerre academy. He subsequently made a few appearances for the Ligue 1 outfit’s first team before moving to Germany. And the Frenchman has come leaps and bounds in the last half a decade, establishing himself as one of the best young centre-backs in the Bundesliga.

The 23-year-old has turned out 174 times thus far for Eintracht Frankfurt, chipping in with 11 goals and ten assists. But Ndicka’s journey at the Bundesliga club will end this coming summer, as he will leave as a free agent. And such a situation has captured the attention of Barcelona and Liverpool.

Barcelona will likely enter the market for a left-footed centre-back in the summer transfer window. Xavi Hernandez does not have such an option in his squad and has often deployed Marcos Alonso as a central defender. Several candidates, including Inigo Martinez, have thus emerged on Barcelona’s radar.

But Ndicka is also an option worth considering. And recent reports have suggested that Barcelona and the 23-year-old have a verbal agreement over a Bosman move. But the Blaugrana will face stiff competition from Liverpool and a few other clubs for the Frenchman.

The Reds do not have an urgent need to sign a centre-back. But Joel Matip might leave Liverpool in the summer transfer window. And the Merseyside outfit will have to delve into the market for a replacement if that happens. Ndicka has thus emerged as a viable target for Liverpool.

A few other clubs are also showing interest in the 23-year-old defender. But Barcelona will not enter a bidding war if several clubs are ready to throw the kitchen sink at him. For now, what remains certain is that the youngster will leave Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt as a free agent.
