Real Madrid and Celta Vigo reportedly met on Thursday over a deal for 20-year-old Spanish prospect Gabri Veiga.

According to Spanish journalist Tomas Gonzalez-Martin, as relayed by Madrid Xtra, Gabri Veiga is becoming a top target for Real Madrid. Los Blancos met Celta Vigo on Thursday to discuss a deal for the Spanish midfield prospect. Meanwhile, his market value has risen to €30 million.

Gabri Veiga is witnessing his stock skyrocket with every passing week amid a breakthrough season. The 20-year-old made his first-team debut for Celta Vigo two campaigns ago. But he had to bide his time and cut his teeth in the reserve squad before becoming a regular for the Galician outfit.

However, he has been a pivotal figure for Celta Vigo this term, amassing nine goals and three assists in 25 La Liga outings. Meanwhile, Veiga’s market value has zoomed to €30 million. And the Spanish prospect’s progress has not gone unnoticed either, with Real Madrid among his suitors.

Widespread outlets have already documented extensively that Real Madrid will likely enter the market for a midfield reinforcement. That is because Luka Modric and Toni Kroos are in their twilight years. While the duo will likely sign a one-year extension each, they are on their last legs.

So it behoves Real Madrid to plan for life after Modric and Kroos. In addition, Dani Ceballos faces an uncertain future at the Santiago Bernabeu. Jude Bellingham has thus emerged as a viable target for Real Madrid. But the reigning La Liga champions face stiff competition for the English prodigy. So they view Gabri Veiga as another top target.

Meanwhile, the Spanish prospect has a release clause that is a bit higher than his market value of €30 million. And recent reports have claimed that Real Madrid will not pay such a sum to sign the 20-year-old. Perhaps, that is why Real Madrid and Celta Vigo held a meeting on Thursday.

The tweet by Madrid Xtra does not relay what went down in the meeting between the two clubs. So it will be interesting to see if Celta Vigo will be open to accepting an offer lower than the release clause. Meanwhile, the 20-year-old Spanish prospect is reportedly keen on joining Real Madrid. So a summer move might be on the cards.
