Real Madrid are reportedly interested in signing Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku at the end of the season.

A report from Fichajes claims that Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku has been on Real Madrid’s radar for a while now. And they could look to make a move for the beleaguered Chelsea star at the end of the season.

The 29-year-old is currently on loan at Inter Milan, and he has had a disappointing campaign with them. The Belgian was brought in to help Inter Milan challenge for the major trophies. But he has scored just five goals across all competitions.

Lukaku is clearly not the player he used to be, and it remains to be seen whether Real Madrid are prepared to take a gamble and sign him in the summer. The 29-year-old is clearly unwanted at Chelsea and does not want to return. And the Blues are likely to want to sell him permanently at the end of the season.

Real Madrid need to add more depth to their attack, and they will have to bring in a player who can share the goal-scoring burden with Karim Benzema. There is no doubt that Lukaku can be a useful player for them if he manages to recapture his form and confidence.

The Belgian was one of the best strikers in the world when Chelsea decided to bring him back to Stamford Bridge. However, he has not been able to hit top form ever since. The beleaguered striker will be hoping to get back to his best in the coming months.

Lukaku has the potential to play for a top club like Real Madrid, and he could add a new dimension to their attack with his physicality and hold-up play. However, Real Madrid will be wary of signing a player who has not proven his worth for over a year now.

They are already struggling with players like Eden Hazard, who has failed to justify a big-money move since joining the club. If Chelsea are prepared to let the player leave for a reasonable price, it could be a gamble worth taking for the Spanish giants. They have been overly reliant on Benzema for goals this season. So it is no surprise that Ancelotti is looking to bring in another number nine.

However, a club of Real Madrid’s stature should be aiming higher, and they should look to bring in a talented young striker instead of Lukaku with a higher ceiling. As for the 29-year-old Belgian, there were rumours that Inter Milan could look to sign him permanently at the end of the season.

But his performances have clearly shown that it would be a poor investment for the Italian club. So they have decided to send him back to his parent club in the summer. Meanwhile, the beleaguered Chelsea striker dreams of joining Real Madrid. And it will be interesting to see if a summer move sees the light of day.
