Real Madrid will reportedly have to fend off stiff competition from Atletico Madrid to sign 20-year-old Spanish midfielder Gabri Veiga.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Cadena SER, Gabri Veiga is the subject of interest from Atletico Madrid. The emerging Spanish midfielder is also a target for Real Madrid. And the reigning La Liga champions view the youngster as a potential alternative to Jude Bellingham.

Gabri Veiga started his youth career with Santa Marina before joining Celta Vigo. He spent most of his formative years with the Galician outfit and is one of the most promising young midfielders in his homeland. And the 20-year-old has gone from strength to strength since making his first-team debut in September 2020.

The emerging Spanish midfielder has enjoyed a superb 2022/23 season, scoring some crucial goals for Celta Vigo. And Veiga has a tally of eight goals and three assists in 27 outings thus far. The youngster’s progress has not gone unnoticed either, with Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid interested in him.

Real Madrid will prioritise signing Jude Bellingham in the summer transfer window as they look to lay down a succession plan for Luka Modric and Toni Kroos. The two ageing midfielders are in the twilight of their careers. And the Merengues need to plan for life after Modric and Kroos. But while Bellingham is the top target, his hefty price tag is a problem for Real Madrid.

Several midfielders, including Gabri Veiga, have thus emerged on Los Blancos’ radar as alternatives to Bellingham. But while the 20-year-old emerging Spanish midfielder is a target for Real Madrid, the reigning La Liga champions face stiff competition from Atletico Madrid.

Atletico Madrid will look to complete a squad overhaul in the summer transfer window after two disastrous seasons. And irrespective of whether Diego Simeone stays or leaves, they need to sign a midfielder. Gabri Veiga has thus emerged as a viable target for Atletico Madrid.

But recent reports have claimed that the 20-year-old emerging Spanish midfielder is keen on joining Real Madrid. Meanwhile, Celta Vigo will likely look to keep the youngster at Balaidos beyond the summer. But it will be interesting to see if Atletico Madrid or Real Madrid can seal the deal in the coming months.
