La Liga champions Barcelona reportedly want to sign 27-year-old French international Adrien Rabiot, who wants a €10 million-a-year contract.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Adrien Rabiot is the subject of interest from Barcelona. The Catalan giants want to sign the 27-year-old World Cup finalist in a Bosman move in the summer transfer window. But the player is currently demanding a €10 million-a-year contract from Juventus.

Adrien Rabiot has resurrected his fortunes after a few years of controversies and mediocrity. The French international left PSG in acrimonious circumstances and once had a tiff with Didier Deschamps. But he was a crucial member of France’s campaign at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, where Les Bleus reached the final.

The 27-year-old has also enjoyed a solid 2022/23 campaign with Juventus. And he has chipped in with seven goals and two assists in 28 appearances across all competitions. Rabiot’s progress has not gone unnoticed either. And with the player entering the final months of his contract, he has alerted several clubs, including Barcelona.

Barcelona cannot afford to pay huge sums to sign top targets in the summer transfer window. This comes in the wake of recent comments by Javier Tebas, who has insisted that Barcelona cannot sign a player without raising nearly €200 million. So the Blaugrana will largely depend on the free-agent market at the end of the season.

Several players are on Barcelona’s radar, especially midfielders, amid Sergio Busquets’s uncertain future. The veteran midfielder is in the twilight of his career and might leave in the summer. Barcelona will thus look to bring in a replacement, with N’Golo Kante emerging as a target. In addition, Rabiot also features on their radar.

The 27-year-old World Cup finalist is at the peak of his powers and can reprise different roles in the middle of the park. But Barcelona will face stiff competition from several Premier League clubs, including Liverpool, for him. In addition, Rabiot is demanding a €10 million-a-year contract from Juventus.

It is unclear if the French international will ask for similar wages from Barcelona. But if his demands do not waver, then Barcelona might struggle to hand him anything close to a €10 million-a-year deal. So it will be interesting to see if a summer move can see the light of day.
