David Raya has reportedly rejected a new deal at Brentford, thus opening the door to join a bigger club with Tottenham keen.

According to Marca via Sport Witness, David Raya is not keen to remain at Brentford beyond this season. The Spanish stopper has reportedly rejected a new contract renewal offer from the Bees, thus opening the door for a big club to swoop in.

David Raya was the subject of glances from top Premier League clubs in the summer of 2021 when Brentford returned to the top division. Under Thomas Frank’s tutelage, the Bees have more than maintained their top-flight status.

Owing to good displays from the Bees, they are firmly in contention for a European berth next season. Playing continental football is every footballer’s dream, including Raya, who remains desperate to play at the highest level.

Irrespective of whether Brentford will make it to Europe, Raya reportedly eyes a move to a top side in the future. He might look to stay in England, as there’s considerable interest from clubs here. Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham are keen on the 27-year-old Spaniard. He will enter his final contractual year in the summer.

He has reportedly rejected a new contract with Brentford, meaning the Bees could sell him in the summer. Tottenham will remain alert to his situation despite the looming threat of Chelsea for the 27-year-old Spaniard.

Compared to Chelsea, Tottenham are in a great position to offer Raya the chance to play in Europe. They might even compete in the Champions League if they beat competition from Newcastle for a coveted place in the top four.

Raya’s technical ability on the ball and his distribution methods makes him one of the top keepers on the continent. He will prove a major upgrade to Hugo Lloris, who may not have a future at Tottenham beyond the current season.

Tottenham are also keeping their options open, with Napoli’s Alex Meret one of their targets. Yet, they would like a player with Premier League experience, and Raya ticks the box. He could strengthen and improve the side in places Lloris has lacked.

The reports of his contract rejection will certainly boost Tottenham’s hopes. Considering his depleting value at Brentford, they could also get him on a decent deal. How much the Bees would demand for their in-form keeper remains the question. The 27-year-old Spaniard will prove a solid purchase for Spurs.
